Building on 30 years of teaching language and career skills to international students and the immigrant community, The English Center is reaching out to Bay Area corporations to help them meet the challenges of today’s multicultural workplace through its Corporate Training for Industry program.

Course Descriptions:

Communicate Effectively - Designed for managers and professionals, this course focuses on adapting to American workplace culture and social requirements, coping with a multicultural workplace, performing effectively in meetings, working with a team, making successful presentations, and writing clear and concise emails, memos and reports.

Communicate Clearly - Designed for line supervisors and lead operators, this course focuses on interacting with employees and managers to give clear instructions, identify and solve problems, improve job processes and performance, and lead a team. Trainees learn to make brief oral and written reports, write performance reviews, etc.

Communicate Correctly - Designed for production and service employees, this course focuses on talking with supervisors and co-workers about job processes and problems, quality, safety and personnel issues. Trainees also learn to read basic documents and complete required forms accurately.

American English Fluency - This course is designed to reduce those aspects of accent that cause workplace misunderstandings and interfere with effective business communication. It can be adapted to different levels of language skill and the needs of different organizational levels.

In addition, Corporate Training for Industry can develop and deliver custom-designed courses based on your business needs, such as: Customer Service Training, Telephone Skills, Job Safety, Team Building, Technical Writing, Small Talk and American Idioms, etc.

Ancillary Services:
In addition to the courses themselves, we offer

  • Pre- and post-course assessment of employees
  • Organizational needs analysis and individual job task analysis
  • Mid-course and/or end-of-course reports, as required by our clients
  • Program evaluations to identify the impact of the training on your organization
  • Follow-up “refresher” training sessions, as requested
  • Modification of your company’s training materials or other documentation to enhance comprehension by a multicultural workforce

Delivery Options:
Our courses are usually delivered at the client’s job site, at a time convenient for the company and its employees. The typical length is 12 to 15 weeks, with meetings once or twice a week, although more focused short-term courses can be designed as needed.

Courses are available as:

All-day or half-day workshops, seminars or presentations
Standard instruction (7-15 trainees)
Small group instruction (2-6 trainees)
One-on-one coaching sessions

Pricing:
Prices are negotiable and are based on course duration, meeting frequency, class size, training location, material and technology costs, number and type of ancillary services provided, and the degree of customization required by the client.
