International Enrollment Information
How to Apply for Acceptance to the English Center:
In order to send you an acceptance letter and form I-20 for the F-1 student visa, the English Center must receive:
1. The completed and certified on-line application here
2. The US $100 application fee
3. Financial certification of funds available for the period of your study at the English Center. The financial certification may be a bank statement and/or letter of support from family or employer, or a scholarship letter; these may be sent by mail, fax, or they may be scanned and emailed as JPEG or PDF documents.
The financial certification required is based on the number of sessions you plan to attend and also whether you plan to bring a spouse and/or children.
If you are bringing a spouse and/or children, please be sure to enter their information on the application form.
When the English Center has received your certified application, the application fee, and the financial documents certifying adequate finances for your study and stay in the United States, the Center will send you an acceptance letter, a form I-20, and a form I-901 (see below). If you wish to have your acceptance materials sent by express mail, please check this on the application form; you must pay the cost of express mail with your other fees at the time of application to the English Center.
How to apply for the F-1 student visa:
The form I-20 is a “certificate of eligibility” for F-1 status, but it does not itself grant F-1 status. If you are currently outside the United States, you must use the I-20 to acquire F-1 status by following these steps:
1. Pay US$200 to the US government. This is called the “SEVIS Fee.” You may pay this fee by mail using the paper form that will be included with your acceptance, or you may pay the fee on-line using a credit card; the website for paying the fee is https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/. You may also request the English Center to pay this fee for you by including the $200 along with your other fees when you submit your application.
2. Make an appointment for a visa interview at the nearest US embassy or consulate. You will need proof that you have already paid the SEVIS fee. You can check on the waiting time for an appointment by going to this website: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/wait/wait_4638.html. From the list of cities, select the city nearest or most convenient to you to learn how soon you may get an appointment, and how many days after your visit you will receive the visa.
3. You should bring the following items to the visa interview:
The signed I-20 that was sent to you
Proof of payment of the SEVIS fee.
Evidence of intent to depart the United States after completion of studies
A passport valid for at least six months
Form DS-156 (“Non-Immigrant Visa Application), found at https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp
Photographs (See information at http://travel.state.gov/visa/visaphotoreq/visaphotoreq_5334.html#nonimmigrant or use a photography studio that is familiar with US visa requirements.
US$140 for payment of the Machine Readable Visa Fee (MRV)
