Academic and Professional Program
Our flexible curriculum allows students with all levels of English proficiency
to progress at their own pace. In addition to completing the core curriculum,
APP students add special interest electives to their course load.
Full-Time Students
English Center classes are small to facilitate individual learning—average size
14 students. A full-time student receives at least 22.5 hours of classroom
instruction per week, not including self-paced computer laboratory student time.
A typical student's weekly class schedule consists of six classes totalling:

13.5 hours of core classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
9 hours of academic preparation and elective courses on Tuesday and Thursday
optional self-paced computer laboratory time.
Class schedules available (22.5 hours)
Mornings from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm
Afternoons from 1:00 pm to 5:20 pm
Evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:50 pm
Free one-on-one or small group tutoring is available depending on interest and need.
Academic Credits
Students who successfully complete a program of 8 weeks or longer at the English Center can earn units of academic credit. The full-time student can earn 9 credits each 8-week session. This credit can be used for show employers for tuition reimbursement, or for transfer to colleges and universities that give credit for coursework similar to the English Center’s. Core English Language Curriculum (13.5 hours/week)
At the beginning and intermediate levels, students attend core classes to
build a solid base in American language and culture skills. Core classes
cover all basic aspects of language learning:
Grammar/Reading skills and vocabulary development
Academic and business writing
Listening comprehension
Formal and informal speaking skills
At the advanced level, core classes focus on language skills for academic and professional purposes.
Elective Classes (9 hours/week)
These courses reflect the particular interests of current students and faculty and
add a new dimension to English studies. Popular special interest electives have
